“Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) is everybody’s business. Being conscious and prepared for any calamity is of outmost importance to effectively and efficiently manage disaster and reduce casualties and damage to lives and properties“, said National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Executive Director Alexander Pama.
As part of the celebration of Emergency and Disaster Preparedness Month, the Local Government Unit of Baler conducted the 3rd Municipal Emergency and Disaster Rescue Challenge 2016 at Municipal Ground Plaza, Baler Aurora last 29th of July 2016.
This event was participated by different teams from 13 Barangays of Baler, 9 Secondary Schools, 3 NGO Volunteers and 5 National Agencies (PNP Baler, PNP Dipaculao, ARESCOM, Philippine Army 56th IB and Bureau of Fire Protection Baler). Each team must performed Emergency Rescue Transfer, Bandaging, Basic Life Support/CPR and Knot Tying. The objectives of this event are to promote and aware the public in times of disaster and emergency response teams, and to develop sportsmanship, competitiveness and camaraderie among the participants.
BFP Baler won the 2nd place, Philippine Army 56th IB won the 1st place and Tour Guide Association of Baler declared as champion. In every contest there is always a winner and loser. But this event is not just a contest, it is a challenge. We who participated are all winners, because we not just develop sportsmanship, competitiveness and camaraderie among us but we also learn that winning is not everything it is the learning that we gain from that experience.
