SHAKING EARTH BEWARE!
In our constantly progressing country, industrialization is inevitable. This leads to the development of towns to cities, building of many infrastructures, ranging from single dwelling houses to towering skyscrapers, and also development of roads and bridges. These improvements are all beneficial to all of us but at the same time post a great threat during calamities specifically earthquakes.
The Philippines lies along the “Pacific Ring of Fire”, which causes the country to have frequent seismic and volcanic activity. Our country experiences an average of 100 earthquakes per year. Most of them are not felt but is recorded by PHIVOLCS in their seismographs. This has been the sole purpose of the implementation of the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) that is a part of the Republic Act No. 101211 that was issued last July 27, 2009. The said drill should be done quarterly for public schools, offices, agencies, and establishments as part of their disaster preparedness.
We the personnel of Concepcion Fire Station headed by our Municipal Fire Marshal take responsibility in facilitating these drills on schools, government agencies, establishments and other offices that request our assistance. We provide seminars for earthquake preparedness and basic rescue and first aid techniques to enhance their awareness and knowledge. We also make sure to stress out that these seminars are conducted to eliminate panic during emergency situations, because if we know what to do during a critical situation, we would be able to maintain our presence of mind, hence saving our lives and even others.
We envision that each and everyone in the Municipality of Concepcion to be well educated with the proper knowledge regarding these calamities so that there will be lesser obstacles in obtaining the continuing progress and growth of our town.
